The Wildflowers are starting to bloom

This year is the first year I have tried a wildflower garden. I have no idea what many of the plants are that are starting to bloom. I even see a tomato plant growing in there! My trumpet vine is new this year and has some blooms on it already. I was a little afraid of planting this one, as they can be invasive. I have already see the hummingbirds using it thou, so I will take my chances:)

When what to my wondering eyes should appear?

But a minature hummingbird. I actually had my camera with me last evening when this bird flew right next to me and started feeding on the Crocisma. Very cool!

butterflies, bees and hummingbird moths

Lots of creatures are enjoying the flowers. I took these yesterday afternoon. I had several hummingbird moths enjoying the bee balm.

Lots of Sunflowers thanks to the birds

These are dividends from the birds. They must not have consumed all the sunflower seeds I fed them this past winter. I've actually been pulling up tons of sunflower seedlings all winter, but decided to let some grow.

Lots of hummingbird plants are blooming now

I have lots of great hummingbird plants blooming now. Lots of Salvias, Crocisma, bee balm, cany corn vines, cupheas etc... I think I saw the first immature humingbird of the season too. I love this time of the summer where everything is growing and blooming.

coneflowers, daisies and wisconsin are a good match

Coneflowers and daisies seem to thrive in Wisconsin. They are not hummingbird flowers, yet they do well in our bad, dry clay soil. Last year when they were on sale I bought a bunch and planted them in my worst bed out front. This year they look great. Some how a daisy even grew in one of my patches of bee balm, which also does well here(and is a hummingbird magnet).
