October pictures from the hummingbird garden

Well, the hummingbirds have flown south, but some things are still blooming.

An after the freeze picture of part of my garden. It is done for the winter.

I love planting pansies in the fall, as they come back in the spring.

Mums

The Mums are looking great. I like to chose mid to late season mums that last after the frost.

27 degrees, snow and wind

We had a nasty cold front move in last night that even dumped a bit of snow and sleet on us. I've never seen snow in early October before anyplace I have lived. Here are pictures from the aftermath.

Woodpecker

Since I haven't seen a hummingbird in about two days and it supposed to get down to 28 degree here this week, I set up my winter feeders. Snapped a picture of this woodpecker enjoying some peanut nuggets. We've had some light frost, but so far my plants have survived. Weds. it will be a low of 28 and a high of 37 with snow showers. I hate winter!

frost is coming

With the frost warnings out tonight and my book group coming over, I decided to pick some bouquets.I have several potted plants in my ktichen, but the outdoor ones will be toast if it frosts. Looking at the forcast for the end of next week it looks very cold with snow showers predicted. Thus the end of another gardening season. The sad tale of a borderline zone 5 gardener.
