Migrating Sandhill Crane in Flight

I took a short hike on the Ice Age trail today. There were lots of geese migrating through. I kept hearing Sandhill Cranes, but couldn't locate where they were. Finally a pair took off into the air and I snapped this photo. I'm surprised they are back this early. Also surprising with how big they are that they can fly:)

Lisa .. what a great shot of the crane in flight ! .. I love that you have the Canadian Geese too ! We actually saw a pair yesterday here in Kingston .. I think the birds in general are out of whack with the season being so long and cold.

Great shot! I'm hoping the early return of some birds here signals an early spring but I haven't seen geese in any great numbers yet.
